The cut length of a rope varies around 4%. This variability is mainly a result of the rope's elasticity, which has an effect on the measured length before it is cut. Petzl uses the UIAA measurement method.
Petzl's position is to guarantee that its new ropes are of the minimum rated length. For example, a new Petzl 50 meter rope might measure between a minimum of 50 meters and a maximum of 52 meters. Another example, a new Petzl 70 meter rope might measure between a minimum of 70 meters and a maximum of 73 meters. As with the position of the middle of the rope, you can observe a gap between the two ends of your rope 1.2 m.
