In a wet environment, for example in the rain or in a canyon, water gets into the carabiner’s locking sleeve and displaces the original lubricant. In this case, you may find it difficult to lock / unlock the sleeve.
In case of difficulty unlocking the sleeve, here are some tips to help open it:
- Wrap rope or webbing around the sleeve to increase the leverage on it.
As a preventative, or if the sleeve sticks or rubs when opening / closing, lubricate the sleeve with a few drops of silicone oil. Screw / unscrew the sleeve once or twice, then remove the excess oil with a cloth.
Finally, remember that it's important to do a regular PPE inspection of your carabiner.
If this does not solve your problem, you can contact your local after-sales service.
