Under normal working conditions, ASAP and ASAP LOCK do not block the rope. If the rope is pulled upward, for example by the wind, a loop of slack can be created, increasing the worker’s potential fall distance.

Solutions to avoid slack caused by the wind:

With ASAP LOCK, use the locking function to limit rope travel through the device. This function does not impede the upward progress of the user.

With ASAP, without a locking function, other techniques can be used:

  • Rope held by a co-worker on the ground
  • Weight on the rope end
  • Rope end attached to an anchor

These three options must be assessed in the rescue plan; in all cases, an assessment of the risks specific to the situation must be carried out.
