Two MAESTRO, I’D or RIG used in parallel by a single operator.

The MAESTRO, I’D and RIG descenders can be used in parallel in rescue situations, mainly with long rope lengths and smaller rescue teams. This technique enables a single user to simultaneously operate two devices.

Warnings

  • Carefully read the Instructions for Use used in this technical advice before consulting the advice itself. You must have already read and understood the information in the Instructions for Use to be able to understand this supplementary information.
  • Mastering these techniques requires specific training. Work with a professional to confirm your ability to perform these techniques safely and independently before attempting them unsupervised.
  • We provide examples of techniques related to your activity. There may be others that we do not describe here.
Deux MAESTRO, I'D ou RIG utilisés en parallèle.

Advantages

  • Even sharing of the load on the descenders
  • Reduced potential extension of the system, in case one of the ropes fails
  • One operator can control two descenders

Disadvantages

  • Because the ropes are close together, they are simultaneously exposed to any failure risk
  • A backup person is needed

Choosing an anchor

For optimal device function, we recommend that you use flexible anchors such as slings, ropes or wire rope strops to enable proper orientation of the descenders or of the PAW. The PAW enables a more ergonomic system setup. For greater ease of use, MICRO SWIVELs may be used to attach the descenders to the PAW.

Backing-up the lowering system

A lowering backup system may be added to your system depending on the situation and your risk assessment. This system enables the requirements of the EN 12841 certification to be met by the addition of an EN 12841 type A component.

Using two RESCUCENDERS attached to one double pulley, for example TWIN, GEMINI or SPIN L2.

This system enables a very significant reduction in potential elongation of the ropes and an even sharing of the load on the anchors, which enables greater hauling efficiency for the rescue team.
