To meet the needs of every user, Petzl's climbing and mountaineering helmets offer standard or enhanced protection, depending on the model.

Standard protection

Protection against falling objects (rocks, ice...), in accordance with the EN 12492 or UIAA 106 standard.

Enhanced protection

Protection against falling objects and against lateral, frontal, and rear impact.

Choosing your Petzl climbing and mountaineering helmet

Petzl helmets are designed according to several lines suitable for all uses.

  • The PERFORMANCE line, designed for intensive, all-terrain use, is especially lightweight and well-ventilated for optimal comfort.
  • The ADVANCED line, designed for regular climbing and mountaineering use, features an excellent weight/ventilation/comfort ratio.
  • The DISCOVER line is suitable for starting out in climbing, mountaineering, via ferrata, caving, canyoning... with rugged, versatile helmets, that are also comfortable. Specifically designed for women, the ELIA helmet can be worn with a ponytail.
  • Special lines offer helmets suitable for children, cavers and groups.

Petzl helmet construction

Helmet, hybrid construction 1

Hybrid construction: EPP (expanded polypropylene) foam shell and EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam liner injected under a thin polycarbonate crown

Principle of shock absorption:

  • the crown protects the liner which absorbs top impacts
  • the shell foam alone absorbs side, front and rear impacts by deformation

Benefits: ultra-light, compact, optimal ventilation.

Construction used for SIROCCO helmet.

Hybrid construction: EPP (expanded polypropylene) foam liner and EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam liner protected under a hard ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) shell

Principle of shock absorption:

  • the shell protects the foam liners by spreading the impact
  • the foam liners absorb impact by deformation

Benefits: durable, compact, versatile for use in multiple activities, good ventilation.

Construction used for BOREO helmet.

In-Mold construction: EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam liner injected under a thin polycarbonate shell

Principle of shock absorption:

  • the shell protects the foam and helps resist penetration by sharp objects
  • the foam only absorbs impact by deformation

Benefits: lightweight, compact, optimal ventilation, sleek finish and advanced graphics.

Construction used for METEOR helmet.

Hard shell construction: ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) hard shell and EPS (expanded polystyrene) or EPP (expanded polypropylene) foam liner

Principle of shock absorption:

  • the shell protects the foam and spreads the impact
  • the foam absorbs the impact by deformation

Benefits: rugged, durable and versatile for use in multiple activities.

Construction used for ELIA, PICCHU, and PANGA helmets.
