Via Ferrata climbing in Quebec

An incredible adventure: via ferrata climbing is a novel activity for exploring unique ecosystems in the backcountry. In Quebec, outdoor professionals have worked hard to provide easier access to the vertical world by putting up routes on solid high-quality rock that ranks among the planet's oldest formations.

Safety, a constant concern

In Quebec, via ferrata routes are designed to limit as much as possible their impact on the environment. Routes are installed in a way to ensure the cables and iron bars remain discrete and blend in with the terrain. Some routes are open at night during a full moon. Others stay open in the winter, allowing enthusiasts to climb along the ice-covered cliffs. Each route has a difficulty rating. Certified guides lead clients and conduct all rescue operations. Each outing starts with a short lesson on a learning wall, essential for most people since this is usually their first real experience exploring the vertical world. All sites have designated escape routes and evacuation trails as well as permanent rescue gear caches. In addition, all fixed equipment is inspected and the emergency plan reviewed on a daily basis.
