Petzl RopeTrip 2018

The 2018 edition

Following Crolles (FRA), Uppsala (SUE), and Salt Lake City (USA), the 2018 edition will take place from June 7-9, 2018, in Duisburg (25km north of Dusseldorf in Germany) in a truly unique location that combines the great outdoors with the area's industrial heritage: Landschaftpark Duisburg-Nord. As with every RopeTrip, the two main attractions are the rope-access challenge and the international rope-access symposium.

  • The rope-access challenge

The team rope-access challenge represents the athletic side and the centerpiece of the event. Every three-person rope access team will participate in qualifying rounds that are designed to be both fun and as close to real-world work situations as possible.
Each qualifying round requires expertise in specific rope access techniques, teamwork, and understanding the overall system in place. While quick execution is important, judges will be looking for the ability to safely move around at height.
After the qualifying rounds, the highest scoring teams will compete against each other in the semi-finals and then finals, in a location open to the public. The usual demonstration of expertise, speed, and team spirit will make for a truly spectacular display of skill.

  • The international rope-access symposium

The symposium serves to bring together both rope access workers and managers or entrepreneurs who work with the profession. It includes high-level presentations and practical workshops. This is a must-attend conference for specialists to meet, discuss, and exchange ideas.

  • The 2018 venue: Landschaftpark Duisburg-Nord

Dusiburg-Nord Park extends across a surface area of 180 hectares, and mixes natural landscapes with the massive industrial buildings of a refurbished steel mill. It serves as a recreation area to enjoy both sports and cultural activities.
The old buildings and installations were renovated to host shows, performances, and include restaurants, sports equipment, and seminar facilities for companies. Some of these truly remarkable renovations highlight the vertical nature of this type of industrial facility: Europe's largest artificial scuba diving center is located inside a former gas tank, climbing walls were built on the mineral storage silos, rope courses were installed, and a blast furnace was transformed into an observation tower.
The park also enjoys a unique lighting system and lights that bring the park to life when the sun goes down. Without a doubt, the 2018 Petzl RopeTrip has found the ideal venue. To learn more:
