A professional canyoning manual

In January 2018, the pedagogical engineering team at the CREPS Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Center for Sports Science in Vallon Pont d’Arc, France, published a canyoning manual for future professional instructors.

JANUARY 2019

Manuel professionnel de canyonisme

  • Project partner: CREPS Auvergne Rhône-Alpes
  • Country:  France
  • Project type: Accident prevention
  • Budget: €27,000 (drawings, technical proofreading) from 2015 to 2018

This 280-page book presents the teaching, supervision and rescue techniques currently used in the canyoning world.

More than 200 original drawings were created specifically for this manual, which received financial, technical and editorial support from the Petzl Foundation. The manual is primarily aimed at individuals who are in training for a French state diploma in canyoning, but will also be of interest to both senior instructors and amateurs in the field who are keen to improve their knowledge. In addition to its technical content, the book contains chapters about aquatic environments, teaching techniques and learning methods that add to existing literature on canyoning, both as a sport and a profession.

On order on the CREPS Auvergne Rhône-Alpeswebsite (in French)
