Following the teaser, here is the long version of The North Face® Transgrancanaria® 2012 report. Saturday, March 3rd : French ultra-runner Sébastien Chaigneau won the 123 km, 5500m vertical gain race on Gran Canaria Island (Spain), establishing a new 12h54mn course record. Brazilian Fernanda Maciel led the women’s category finishing in 15h02mn.

Sebastien Chaigneau. The first ultra of the season, The North Face TransGranCanaria, is a good warm up for runners who compete all year long on the ultra-marathon circuit. This race, which covers 123km and 5500m vertical gain, runs from north to south across the largest island of the archipelago.

Gathering a total of 8000 runners for a cocktail of 4 different ultra trail races, The North Face Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc confirmed it's rank as the world's toughest event of its kind. The weather remained the master in the mountains: for this 9th edition, runners were greeted by the full array of meteorological conditions: intense heat, thunderstorms, drenching showers, high winds, thick fog, sub-zero temperatures, snowy passes and a finish under a clear blue sky.

Well, mountains are mountains and they don't always allow you to do what you want to do.
Strong winds, storming, rain, snow and heavy fog wreaked havoc on the The North Face Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, which was held August 27 - 29.



 

UTMB: the night is yours!

The 8th edition of the Ultra Trail Mont-Blanc will take place from August 24th to 29th 2010. This mythical race follows the famous hiking path that goes round the Mont-Blanc, called “Tour du Mont-Blanc”. With 166 km and 9400 meters in difference of altitude, the race will include running at night once or twice.

This year's 10mila was held in south Sweden, somewhat special
because otherwise it has always been around Stockholm. But Skåne
offered a great event with good organisation, nice terrain and
spring-feeling during the day (in the night the temperature fell down
drastically...)

On the way to the World Championships

Next week I'm heading to Hungary for a training camp. The goal is clear: getting familiar with the terrain where the World Championship 2009 will take place!

I'm really looking forward to it as it is always exciting to get to know new terrains. This week will be special for me in another way: as I was injured the last weeks it will be the first time I will be allowed to run again... I'm really looking forward to feel my legs running again and I hope that everything will be alright.
