There are quite a lot of great athletes where I live at Les Arcs - mostly skiers, snowboarders, paragliders, kayakers, and climbers of course ;)
Most of them are very aware of the luck with have to live in the mountains and be able to play in such a great and varied terrain. Hovewer, that doesn't mean that a pro freeskier will start climbing or paragliding. Our worlds are close but the doors between them aren't always open, all the time.

The 16th annual Ouray Ice Festival took place this past weekend. I attended this year, on behalf of Petzl and The North Face, to give a slideshow and compete in the mixed-climbing competition. The Ouray mixed competition is a prestigious invite-only event that draws some of the nation's best mixed/ice climbers. It was my first competition of this sort, and I was anxious and excited to see how I would fare.

The line of Petzl Charlet QUARK and NOMIC ice axes has a new look and has been expanded with the addition of the ERGO, an exclusive model designed specially for high-performance dry tooling and ice climbing.

The greatest climbers met together last month for the 18th edition of the Piolets d’Or in Chamonix. This key event in terms of alpinism focused on the encounter between the new and the older generation. The chosen projects complied with the ethics of the Piolets d'Or described in the Piolets d’Or charter.
