24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell Field Report

Petzl is a proud sponsor of 24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell, an Arkansas-based climbing event in which competitors climb sandstone routes, trad and sport, for 24 hours straight. Petzl America Team Manager and Events Coordinator Chuck Odette manned the Petzl booth. Here’s his last report from the field before disappearing into the Arkansas woods for a week of sandstone sport madness with his partner in climb, Maggie Smith:

“There were around 250 participants comprising 125 teams. There were at least another 250-300 spectators as well.

Sasha DiGiulian takes 1st overall at the 2011 IFSC World Championships

A storied locale set in a green valley and surrounded by rocky outcroppings, Arco, Italy, this year hosted thousands of climbers and fans from around the world for the International Federation of Sport Climbing’s crowning competition, the Climbing World Championships. The 18-year-old climber from Virginia Sasha DiGiulian took first place overall.

 

IFSC Bouldering Wold Cup at the Teva Mountain Games - Day 1

Day one of the IFSC Bouldering World Cup at the Teva Mountain Games is over. From a field of 83 top international climbers (36 women and 47 men), the top 40 will move on to the Semi Finals, to be held tomorrow morning.

Sasha DiGiulian joins the Petzl Athlete Team, pushes standards

Photo: © Magnus MidtbøA welcome addition to the Petzl Athlete Team, 18-year-old Sasha DiGiulian has spent the first months of 2011 re-adjusting difficulty standards for women’s sport climbing. Hailing from Alexandria, VA, Sasha picked up climbing 11 years ago, after her brother’s birthday party, when she was just 7 years old.

Emily Harrington - Mixed Emotions at the Ouray Mixed Comp

The 16th annual Ouray Ice Festival took place this past weekend. I attended this year, on behalf of Petzl and The North Face, to give a slideshow and compete in the mixed-climbing competition. The Ouray mixed competition is a prestigious invite-only event that draws some of the nation's best mixed/ice climbers. It was my first competition of this sort, and I was anxious and excited to see how I would fare.

Ethan Pringle on winning the Unified Bouldering Championships comp at the Nor'easter

The weekend of September 25-26, Ethan Pringle won the Unified Bouldering Championship finale comp at the Nor’easter Sport, Music, and Conservation festival. The event drew top climbers from all across the country, among them Daniel Woods, the odd-on favorite based on his recent World Cup win and spate of top-end boulder first ascents.

European arborist championship 2010

This year the arborist championship took place on June 12 and 13 in Prague, Czech Republic. The event was organized by the European Arborist Committee, in collaboration with the Czech subsidiary of ISA (International Society of Arboriculture).

GRIMPday 2009: Rescue professionals with no fear

GRIMPday is an international, multidisciplinary technical rope rescue competition which takes place every October in Namur. The fourth edition was a face-off between 23 teams, from Belgium, France, Great Britain, Switzerland and Germany. The participants were firefighters, soldiers, police officers, rescuers, etc.
