Winter Olympic Games in Sochi: Petzl provides ski patrol with lift evacuation trainingIn May 2013, instructors from Petzl Solutions were invited by Petzl’s distributor in Russia to run a training program for the Ski Patrol at Sochi’s Rosa Khutor ski resort. The resort is located in the Western Caucasus, a wild mountainous region along the shores of the Black Sea. The upcoming Winter Olympic Games in February 2014will take place here.
European Tree Climbing Championships: the tree-top elite…The European Tree Climbing Championships took place in Thun, Switzerland, during the weekend of September 7-8, 2013. Above and beyond the competition itself, where the Swiss proved dominant, the ETCC provided an opportunity for arborists to meet and exchange views, as well as to for the general public to learn about this rather atypical profession.

Grimpday 2013, the international challenge for search and rescue in hazardous environmentsGrimpday is an international challenge that brings together search and rescue teams from around the world (firefighters, civil defense, military, and police). The event took place in Namur, Belgium, where teams competed against each other through exercises involving the unique elements related to search and rescue in hazardous environments. This event was created in 2006 by members of Namur’s regional fire department. The 2013 edition took place on Saturday, June 8, 2013, in the beautiful Belgian city. Petzl is proud to support this initiative that reinforces the development of effective techniques for rescues in hazardous environments.
Technical rescue: Raid Rescue 3 in EquatorThe Raid Rescue was created in 2011 as a different type of event for rescue and emergency professionals in South America, a forum allowing them to share their expertise, collective strategies, and their experience for intervention and rescue in difficult-to-access environments.
Labor of love: rope access workRope access workers are experts at height, true professionals above the void, skilled specialists in difficult to access and confined spaces. They must master techniques for access and rope work. Certification, such as the CQP in France (Certificate for Professionally Qualified rope access work), requires a long training period. Rope access workers from all around the world are continuously developing innovative techniques for rope work and fall protection. Their rope access know-how (training, certification, and experience) is only part of the package, and would be of little use if they were not already skilled in the more traditional professions (masonry, plumbing, welding, painting, windows…).
