On December 21, 2011, Petzl America became aware of our presence on a list of companies purportedly supporting the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA; H.R. 3261). However, Petzl America does not and has never supported SOPA or the related senate bill known as the Protect IP Act.

In Florida, "Santa Claus" was getting ready for the upcoming Christmas work rush and brushing up on his rappelling technique at a local shopping mall. But the exercise didn't go exactly as planned. Instead, this poor "Santa" got his beard caught in the descender. We still don't know if he ever made it down..

The goal of the conference is to share experiences as well as different techniques and equipment in order to improve both efficiency and safety for mountain rescue operations.

In this building, Petzl welcomes the first "Championnat de France des Cordistes" (French rope access championships) organized by the Syndicat Français des Entreprises de Travaux en Hauteur (SFETH, French rope access union).

Petzl is very saddened to announce the passing of our good friend and colleague, Garrett Smith, who died as a result of injuries sustained in an avalanche in the Utah backcountry on Saturday, March 26th. Garrett worked at Petzl America as a Senior Customer Sales and Support representative, specializing in the Professional and International markets. He was a part of all of our lives and he always brought plentiful and positive energy to the office with him. Petzl has already received condolnces from many of the customers he worked with on a regular basis.

We have recently identified some copies from China 'identical' to four items of Petzl's Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). These copies, noncompliant with our standards, are a real danger for the user. Unfortunately, from the outside, they are indistinguishable from an original Petzl product. Petzl immediately launched an information campaign throughout its commercial network and for its clients, as well as legal measures to identify and stop the culprits.
