Sam Beaugey in Antarctica: a "Train kite" expedition!

This winter, Sam Beaugey and his friend François traveled to the “white continent” to attempt rock and mixed climbing first ascents on never-before-climbed summits. They completed an entirely self-sufficient 12-day traverse of the Holtanna Range via "train kite." An ingenious combination of skis and sleds propelled by kite!

As a Chamonix resident, Team Petzl member Liv Sansoz takes full advantage of the valley's dynamic atmosphere for a skillful mix of climbing, mountaineering, skiing, paragliding and BASE jumping adventures. As February 2013 came to a close, snow conditions were perfect; the forecast was for blue skies and warmer weather due to a temperature inversion. Reports confirmed that the Whymper couloir was completely filled in and skiable without needing to rappel.

The first edition of the Abisko Ice Climbing Festival took place from February 28 to March 3, 2013, in Sweden. Merja and Anders (founder of Arctic Guides), who created the event, opened the door to an exceptional winter wonderland for the many who attended, and provided a great opportunity to learn or to sharpen one’s ice climbing skills. During the four-day festival Robert Jasper, Team Petzl member, led clinics and demonstrations on how to properly scale ice. As a supporting partner, Petzl provided participants with all the right gear to enjoy ice climbing.

Last spring, Petzl Team member Sasha DiGiulian, became the first female to redpoint Chris Sharma’s Era Vella (9a/14d) in Margalef, Spain. Sasha is one of a handful of women in the world to climb at that grade and remains the only America woman to do so. Filmmakers Andy Mann and Keith Ladzinski were on hand to capture the process.
