Petzl rep Matt McCormick reports from the 2013 Smuggs Ice BashThe Smugglers Notch Ice Bash was started seven years ago as a small gathering of climbers in Jeffersonville, Vermont, just north of the beautiful Smuggler’s Notch State Park. From its small grassroots start, the event has quickly grown into one of the biggest and most well-attended ice fests on the East Coast.
Petzl rep Matt McCormick reports from the Adirondack International MountainfestThe Adirondacks in the winter time are a special place, with amber ice flows mixing between the granite outcrops and cedar trees. Now in its 17th year, the Adirondack Mountainfest routinely draws huge crowds to New York's Keene Valley to try the latest in ice climbing gear and watch presentations from guest climbers. The Mountainfest, hosted by the famous local gear shop The Mountaineer, has drawn legendary climbers from around the world -- luminaries like Jeff Lowe, Alex Lowe, Steve House and Will Gadd.
Ice climbing: events all around the worldOver the weekend of January 12-13, 2013, the promotion team and Petzl Team climbers took off to take part in multiple ice climbing events across the planet. Of note were Ice Climbing Ecrins in the Hautes-Alpes region of France, the Ouray Ice Festival and its Elite Mixed Comp in Colorado, the Ice Climbing World Cup in South Korea, and the Youth World Championships in Saas Grund, Swizterland.
