... Being lazy, we decided to rappel rather than approaching by the Martel trail - a frequent dilemma in Verdon - and now here we are starting up the biggest pillar in Verdon, between the two classic cracks of the Ula, which is very close, and the Demande, which we can’t see. Our line, Les Marches du Temps, goes up a series of waves of bluish limestone before it crosses a steep, yellow-streaked wall and then finishes, fully exposed, three hundred meters above the ground. I feel very small, almost lost in this sea of limestone, on one of the most beautiful pillars of Escalès, with this strange sensation - a hint of fear - that, having started the route by its descent, we now had to finish it no matter what ...
