How to choose a connector

-The essential link in any safety system

To meet the many different needs encountered in the field, there is a wide selection of connectors. Based on its shape, size, opening capacity or locking system, each product is destined for a specific use.
Connectors are made of aluminum or steel and are designed for two distinct uses:

- aluminum: Used on harnesses, at the ends of lanyards or for temporary anchors. Their low weight eases progression while their alloy ensures an optimal weight-to-strength ratio.
- steel: Heavier than their aluminum counterparts, they are better adapted to more difficult conditions. These connectors are mainly used for fixed anchors or for connecting to metal structures.

To guarantee optimal efficiency, all aluminum Petzl carabiners use the Keylock system: the body / gate interface does not have a hook that could snag on anchors, ropes, harnesses, etc.

-Different shapes for different uses

Whether symmetrically shaped, pear-shaped (small or large) or D-shaped, each shape is designed for a specific use: connecting a device to a harness, attaching a pulley, for use at a lanyard's termination, etc.

Versatile symmetrical shape specially adapted for devices with wide side plates (FIXE pulley, ASCENSION rope clamps, etc.).
Ovale shape

Asymmetrical shape allows easy connection and good positioning of the device along the length of the axis.
D shape

Asymmetrical shape has a wide opening and a large capacity for connection.

-Locking systems adapted for every situation

Locking carabiners can have either manual locking or auto-locking systems:
- automatic: automatically locked, without intervention by the user
- manual: manually locked by the user

AUTOMATIC (frequent manipulation)

Auto-locking system with lock indicator

  • Green dot indicates when sleeve is locked
  • Quick to unlock by pressing on the green dot and turning the sleeve.
  • Can be opened and closed with one hand
  • Recommended for carabiners that are frequently used

Auto-locking system

  • Unlocks quickly by raising and then turningv the sleeve
  • Recommended for carabiners that are frequently used

MANUAL (occasional manipulation)

Manual screw gate locking system

  • The red band provides a visual warning when the carabiner is unlocked
  • Recommended for harsh environments (mud, ice), where dust and dirt could cause an automatic
  • locking mechanism to malfunction Recommended for carabiners that are frequently used
