Mountain rescue: video from the IKAR CISA 2011 Conference


The international IKAR-CISA conference took place at the end of October in Are, Sweden. Every year this international event brings together mountain rescue teams from all over the world.

The goal of the conference is to share experiences as well as different techniques and equipment in order to improve both efficiency and safety for mountain rescue operations.

Jared Abrojena at the 2011 Tree Climbing Championships

This year’s International Tree Climbing Championships (ITCC) took place in Sydney, Australia in late July (winter in the southern hemisphere). Petzl athlete Jared Abrojena, a professional and competitive arborist from California, has fared exceptionally well in ITCC events in the past couple of years, continuing his world-class performance this year. V.axess, the Petzl Institute, hosts French Rope Access Championships

Saturday, 19 March 2011 – since the very first hour the hall of V.axess is alive with the sound of carabiners, descenders and ascenders. In this building, Petzl welcomes the first "Championnat de France des Cordistes" (French rope access championships) organized by the Syndicat Français des Entreprises de Travaux en Hauteur (SFETH, French rope access union).

Garrett Smith: A Purposeful Life

Petzl is very saddened to announce the passing of our good friend and colleague, Garrett Smith, who died as a result of injuries sustained in an avalanche in the Utah backcountry on Saturday, March 26th. Garrett worked at Petzl America as a Senior Customer Sales and Support representative, specializing in the Professional and International markets. He was a part of all of our lives and he always brought plentiful and positive energy to the office with him. Petzl has already received condolnces from many of the customers he worked with on a regular basis.

Labor of Love: Arborist Climber

In the spring of 2010, arborist climber Xavier Ubeda went to work with some trees on a property on Moines Island in the Gulf of Morbihan. It was here that he assisted Raphaël Dubuc and Alain Gourmaud, two instructors in the profession of arborist climbing. The goal of the day was to trim large dead branches from pine trees (Pinus radiata) that overhung a footpath along the coast.
