They should be recalled, not inspected!
Wed, 02/11/2011 - 19:35 — Anonymous (not verified)How do you know that the product doesn't have flawed or damaged materials, or a construction defect that introduced damage that isn't readily seen? Someone died because of equipment failure, equipment that Petzl manufactured. Allowing continued use of any of these lanyards is irresponsible at best.
I've long found the design of Petzl products was often superior to other brands, and they were usually my first choice in the past, but with this weak response, I have lost confidence in the company. It seems that saving money, not customer safety, is Petzl's primary concern here. I am frankly shocked by what seems to be a nonchalant attitude where the consequences of inaction could be fatal. Please replace these lanyards for your customers' sake, if not your own.
Re: They should be recalled, not inspected!
Fri, 04/11/2011 - 19:55 — PetzlAs a measure of precaution, all SCORPIO lanyards with a serial number less than 11137 are recalled for inspection. It means that as clearly explained on our website, any user which has such a product must STOP using his SCORPIO lanyard, contact his national Petzl distributor, send his lanyard to his national Petzl distributor.
Then national Petzl distributor will inspect the lanyard to check if the safety stitchings are correct or not. If the result of the inspection is OK, then national Petzl distributor will send the lanyard back to the user.
Note that the accident was the result of one safety stitching missing on one Scorpio lanyard produced in year 2002.
Note also that all new Scorpio Lanyards with a serial number more than 11138 are not concerned by this Recall for Inspection.
Well, it has been proven
