It is 14h59, Sunday, May 20th, in Oike Park, by the peaceful shores of lake Kawaguchi. As the award ceremony reaches its end, Seiji Okamato and Ryu Kodama, the last two runners, cross the finish line hand-in-hand to a huge round of applause and are welcomed onto the stage by both the organizing committee and the winners of the races. Seiji Okamato proudly shows a bag full of trash he picked up on the trail and carried all the way.

In Florida, "Santa Claus" was getting ready for the upcoming Christmas work rush and brushing up on his rappelling technique at a local shopping mall. But the exercise didn't go exactly as planned. Instead, this poor "Santa" got his beard caught in the descender. We still don't know if he ever made it down..

Last fall, from October 26-30, 2011, more than 600 climbers gathered with our team for Petzl RocTrip China. All participants discovered and enjoyed more than 250 brand new pitches on unbelievable limestone especially prepared for the event. The long-awaited movie has now arrived.

Macedonia, the new place to be

The long awaited first edition of the Ultra Trail race around Japan's iconic mountain is soon to start. Covering the 156 kilometers of paths with 8530 m of vertical gain is next week-end's challenge for the registered runners. This race is the first of it's kind in Asia. Over the previous years many runners from Japan participated to Ultra Trail races in Europe and America. Originally scheduled in 2011 the UTMF was cancelled because  of the tsunami disaster.

Bad weather and snow conditions only allowed parts of the Patrouille des Glacier ski mountaineering race to happen. After a week of heavy snowfall a first wind storm hit the Alps in the night of Wednesday to thursday, forcing to a stop the big race, the small race was able to start and finish without any issues. In the early hours of Saturday a sudden rise in temperatures brought the avalanche danger to high level. For safety reasons the organisation stopped the long race at Arolla and stopped and called back all the racers on the short race.

The 10MILA race is one of the largest orienteering competitions in Sweden and in the world. As orienteering is a very widespread sport in Sweden, the country holds several competitions during the year, attracting orienteering clubs from all around the world. This year, the 10MILA competition takes place in Kvarn, Östergötland in the inlands of Sweden and Petzl will be there sponsoring the event and launching the new NAO headlamp.
