A race course run in the opposite direction to keep runners healthy; an earlier date this year to protect local flora; and a gaggle of high-level runners at the starting line for this exceptional race. This year, the second edition of the Ultra Trail Mt. Fuji® (UTMF®) was marked by the presence of well-known runners and once again provided more than a few unforgettable moments.
Sam Beaugey in Antarctica: a "Train kite" expedition!
This winter, Sam Beaugey and his friend François traveled to the “white continent” to attempt rock and mixed climbing first ascents on never-before-climbed summits. They completed an entirely self-sufficient 12-day traverse of the Holtanna Range via "train kite." An ingenious combination of skis and sleds propelled by kite!

Mountain rescue: video from the IKAR CISA 2011 Conference
The international IKAR-CISA conference took place at the end of October in Are, Sweden. Every year this international event brings together mountain rescue teams from all over the world.
The goal of the conference is to share experiences as well as different techniques and equipment in order to improve both efficiency and safety for mountain rescue operations.
Labor of Love : Maurice, founder of "GRIMP" search and rescue team in BelgiumMaurice Levaux, 57 years old, is head of GRIMP, the hazardous environment search and rescue group in Aywaille, Belgium ("grimpe" is another word for "climbing" in French thus the acronym). GRIMP's creation and history are closely linked to a recent event. In 1997, during a club outing at the Sy/Ourthe cliff, one of Maurice's close friends was involved in an accident.
