The greatest climbers met together last month for the 18th edition of the Piolets d’Or in Chamonix. This key event in terms of alpinism focused on the encounter between the new and the older generation. The chosen projects complied with the ethics of the Piolets d'Or described in the Piolets d’Or charter.

At the end of the event, an award ceremony took place. Two teams received a Piolet d’Or:

  • Denis Urubko and Boris Dedeshko for the opening of a new route in Nepal on the South-East face of the Cho Oyu (8201 m). After this ascent, Denis Urubko became the 15th man to succeed in climbing all 14 "8000s", the 9th without oxygen.
  • Jed Brown, Kyle Dempster and Bruce Normand for the ascent in China of the North face of the Xuelian West (6422 m), which was long, difficult and technical. This summit had never been climbed before.

Petzl shares these rare moments and contributes to this great event, helping to shape the world of international alpinism focused on beauty and lightness of style, together with the values of sharing, safety and solidarity.
