UTMB® 2012: 145 unforgettable hours

The North Face® Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® (UTMB®) took place from August 27 to September 2, 2012, in and around the Mont-Blanc range. This truly international Trail Running celebration brought together, as always, athletes, spectators, and volunteers who share the same passion. The 4 races, 73 nationalities, 6000 runners, 2000 volunteers and harsh weather conditions made for a truly extraordinary event.

Petzl is honored to be a part of the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) Sustainability Working Group, recently selected by the White House as a Champion of Change for Corporate Environmental Sustainability. In Florida, "Santa Claus" was getting ready for the upcoming Christmas work rush and brushing up on his rappelling technique at a local shopping mall. But the exercise didn't go exactly as planned. Instead, this poor "Santa" got his beard caught in the descender. We still don't know if he ever made it down..

Hailing from Alexandria, VA, Sasha picked up climbing 11 years ago, after her brother’s birthday party, when she was just 7 years old.

127 HOURS Follow Up - Thanks for All the TIKKAs

In January, 2010, the makers of the film 127 HOURS approached Petzl with a request. They wanted help tracking down the exact model and color of TIKKA headlamp that Aron Ralston wore during his ordeal in the Utah desert, around which the film is based. The props department used photos Ralston took of himself while trapped, his arm pinned between a boulder and the wall of a slot canyon, to identify the three-LED TIKKA and other objects Ralston had with him at that time. (It's not a spoiler to say that Ralston eventually amputated his own arm in order to escape.)
