The Ellis Basin System in

The Ellis Basin System in the Mt Arthur region of New Zealand was recently (2010) linked to 1026m deep, with over 33Km of passages, making it (presumably) the second Southern Hemisphere 1000m+ deep cave. The area also contains 4 other 500m+ deep caves. In January this year, Aussie cave diving guru, Craig Challen pushed the Pearse Resurgence, at the base of Mt Arthur,to -221m in a 17hr dive! This is the deepest known coldwater cave.
