US availability of E13 adapter or E55 rechargeable battery

I have a Zoom headlamp and need to replace the battery pack. I'm in the USA. The battery casing specifies E13 battery adapter or the E55 rechargeable. If the E55 is no longer available, then I am wondering if I can use rechargeable AAs in the E13 adapter casing? Thanks for your response.
