Labor of love: La Grave mountain risk patrollers, guardians of Freedom

Friday, 11 February 2011, 2:00 p.m., Crête du Peyrou d'Aval, around 2800 meters high. Under a beautiful blue sky, on a ridge that delineates the western horizon above the refuge Chancel from the classic ski routes of the Valleys of the Meije, two figures stand out.
When standing still they seem to blend in with this immense, wild and incredibly beautiful mountain.

Petzl RocTrip Mexico 2010 - Las Chicas Superpoderosas!

On Saturday, November 7, Petzl athletes again made their mark on the Mexican climbing scene, adding a second 5.14 first ascent to the amazing El Huevo crag at Jilotepec. The latest hard project to fall to the visiting troupe of international rock stars is called Las Chicas Superpoderosas (“Super Powerpuff Girls” in Spanish), and it weighs in at roughly 5.14c, or 8c+.

2010 Teva Mountain Games - Bouldering World Cup

For the third year running, Vail, Colorado, played host to an IFSC Bouldering World Cup (click here for full results). The event, the only of its kind in the United States, was again a part of the Teva Mountain Games, which brings together atheltes and enthusiasts from across the outdoor world for one weekend every year.

Melloblocco 2010: up to the challenge

As expected, boulderers from all over Europe converged on Melloblocco in Italy the weekend of May 6-9.

This was a bet not to be taken lightly, considering the atrocious weather forecast... But boulderers are the persevering type and Melloblocco's favorable microclimate saved the weekend.

Get ready for the 65th annual 10 Mila!

This year the 10 Mila race will take place on May 1st. For this 65th edition, runners will be racing throught the forests of Finspång, in Östergötland, in southeastern Sweden. This popular race is special in that it takes place entirely at night: the first runner begins at 10pm, followed by the other nine relay team members, for a total race distance of 110 kilometers.

The voting is officially closed! Below are the last round of winners - chosen from among those that submitted their photos and videos by the final January 31 deadline (each submission is open for voting for 14 days).

Social networking and mass emailing were clearly responsable in helping the winners get the most votes this week. The winners of this week's contest were able to generate a great deal of noise about their submissions and each will receive a TIKKA2 PLUS headlamp.

During the past week, the traffic to the contest site was the highest it's ever been, even though the submission period ended on December 31. The site received thousands of votes to choose the best photos and videos, as well as many comments. This week's winning photos are some of the best we've seen in the contest. There are only a few more days before the voting ends and the jury announces the Grand Prize winners. Stay tuned!
