Actions we support
In addition to projects directly managed by the company, Petzl supports actions related to environmental protection or public interest in connection with the business areas of the company.
The Petzl Foundation
Founded in 2006, the Petzl Foundation's goal is to share the success of the company in the environment within which it interacts. It is chaired by Paul Petzl.
The Petzl Foundation supports projects of general interest and non-profit organizations in three different areas:
- Education and the reduction of risks related to the participation in vertical activities
- Preservation of the environment
- Support of fundamental research
With the extent of its reach within communities and its dedication towards public interest, the Petzl Foundation is an essential aspect of the Petzl Group in its implementation of social and environmental responsibility.

Pangaea : learn, act, explore
Launched in 2008, Pangaea is a project whose objective is to introduce young people around the world – the Young Explorers – to the most beautiful places on earth and show them the fragility of ecosystems and the impact of human activity on the environment.
This project is led by explorer Mike Horn.

The journey for each group of Young Explorers is an opportunity to teach them how to find solutions to an environmental problem, to take action to protect, clean and to collect data for further scientific research.
Through the Pangaea Project, Mike Horn hopes to train tomorrow's ambassadors for the planet.

We will make this journey together, driven by our passion to achieve a common goal. I believe that we must begin to take concrete action to ensure that our planet will be respected by future generations. ![]()

Sponsorship actions by Petzl in the USA
Petzl's North American subsidiary, Petzl America, has been for many years involved in supporting both environmental protection as well as communities of outdoor sports enthusiasts. Since 2011, these actions are being undertaken by the Petzl Foundation, through its representative in the US, the director of Petzl America.
In 2011, just over $50,000 will be distributed to different organizations:
Access Fund
Annual contributions to the Access Fund, a national organization that ensures continued access to climbing sites in the United States and the preservation of their environment.
One of the flagship projects of the Access Fund, which has received financial support from Petzl America, is the ACCESS LAND CONSERVATION FUND CAMPAIGN. The objective of this project is to advise and provide financing for local organizations to enable them to act quickly and preserve climbing areas that risk closure.
