The Petzl RopeTrip aims to bring together people from different countries and their varied rope access techniques. With this in mind, Petzl has altered The Rules regarding the "Conditions for access to challenges" (chapters 7 & 8) to allow each team to use their own gear and techniques.

Those entering the Petzl RopeTrip 2014 must be aware of The Rules.

There are of course certain primary details which will be of concern to the judges and relate to the safety of the competitors and those around them. Please make sure that The Rules are clear for all members of your team. The Petzl RopeTrip 2014 staff and judges are there to facilitate the event and to create an enjoyable environment for everybody. A necessary part of this is event safety. If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to ask a member of the staff, either before or at any time during the event.

Asked numerous times about the use of various items of equipment

We have been asked numerous times about the use of various items of equipment, including: the Petzl SHUNT, mountaineering helmets, rescue-specific descenders, as well as improvised equipment and techniques. Please refer to The Rules. If the equipment has not been modified in any way, and is used within the strict parameters of the manufacturer’s instructions and field of application, then there should not be any cause for concern. Again, if you have any specific questions, which are clearly not answered in The Rules, then ask us before travelling and being questioned by the judges!

If you wish to use equipment or techniques which are not in common use in rope access, please be certain you have access to the manufacturer’s instructions to show Petzl RopeTrip 2014 staff.

For further information regarding the use of the Petzl SHUNT, please read the 2012 Petzl Statement in conjunction with the technical notice and The Rules. Non-compliance in any form with these three documents is forbidden for the entire duration of the Petzl RopeTrip 2014, including equipment inspection, practice, and any of the challenges.
